उन्होंने कैबिनेट सचिवालय के तहत बाहरी रॉ एजेंसी में विशेष सचिव के रूप में भी कार्य किया है। देश की सबसे बड़ी सीमा सुरक्षा बल 2.5 लाख कर्मियों का नेतृत्व Vivek Kumar Johri करेंगे। इस सीमा रक्षक बल का बांग्लादेश और पाकिस्तान के साथ भारत की सबसे महत्वपूर्ण और संवेदनशील सीमाओं की रक्षा करने का कार्य है।
बीएसएफ का गठन 1965 में किया गया था जिसका मोटो ड्यूटी टू डेथ है। खुसरो फरमुराज रुस्तमजी सीमा सुरक्षा बल के पहले महानिदेशक थे। बीएसएफ का मुख्यालय दिल्ली में है।
