भारतीय जनता पार्टी के नेता हिमंत बिस्वा सरमा (Himanta Biswa Sarma) ने 10 मई 2021 को असम के 15वें मुख्यमंत्री की शपथ ली। राज्यपाल जगदीश मुखी ने Himanta Biswa Sarma को शपथ दिलाई।
- Himanta Biswa Sarma का जन्म 01 फरवरी 1969 को हुआ था। साल 2001 से 2015 तक भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस के टिकट से असम के जलकुबारी निर्वाचन क्षेत्र से विधायक रहे।
- वे असम की जालुकबारी विधानसभा सीट से लगातार पांचवीं बार विधायक चुने गए हैं। हिमंता बिस्वा शर्मा ने इस बार कांग्रेस के उम्मीदवार इससे पहले वह सोनोवाल सरकार में मंत्री रह चुके हैं।
- हिमंत ने सरकारी लॉ कॉलेज से एलएलबी किया और गुवाहाटी कॉलेज से पीएचडी की उपाधि हासिल की तथा साल 1996 से लेकर 2001 तक गुवाहाटी हाईकोर्ट में प्रैक्टिस किये। हिमंत बिस्वा सरमा पहले कांग्रेस पार्टी में थे लेकिन कुछ मतभेद होने के बाद उन्होंने वर्ष 2015 में कांग्रेस पार्टी छोड़ दी और भारतीय जनता पार्टी में शामिल हो गए।
- एनडीए गठबंधन राज्य की पहली गैर कांग्रेसी सरकार है जिसने प्रदेश में लगातार दूसरी बार चुनावों में जीत हासिल की है। भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने 126 सदस्यीय विधानसभा में 60 सीटों पर जीत दर्ज की है, जबकि उसकी गठबंधन सहयोगी असम गण परिषद ने नौ और यूनाइटेड पीपुल्स पार्टी लिबरल ने छह सीटों पर जीत हासिल की है।
